As of March 2022 a concealed carry license is no longer required in Ohio. Ohio has constitutional carry. But it is still a great idea to take a class and get your license.

It is great to have a license because you will have reciprocity with many other states.

I always recommend taking a class to learn about the laws related to carrying a gun in Ohio. It is a seriously eye opening discussion if you have never taken a CCW class before.

Before you can apply for a concealed carry license in Ohio, you must meet the following requirements:

- You must be 21 years of age or older

- You must be a resident of Ohio for at least 45 days

- You must complete an approved firearms training course

- You must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm under Ohio law

If you meet all of the above requirements, you can begin the application process by visiting your local sheriff's office. The sheriff's office will require you to submit the following items:

- A completed application form

- A non-refundable application fee

- Proof of completion of an approved firearms training course

- Two recent color photographs of yourself

- Your fingerprint card

Once your application is complete, the sheriff's office will conduct a background check. If you are found to be eligible, you will be issued a concealed carry license. If you are not eligible, the sheriff's office will notify you in writing of the reason for denial.

If you are issued a concealed carry license, it will be valid for five years. After five years, you will need to renew your license. The renewal process is similar to the initial application process, and you will need to submit the same items listed above.

There are many benefits to having a concealed carry license in Ohio. Not only does it give you the peace of mind of knowing that you can protect yourself and your loved ones, but it also allows you to carry your firearm in many other states. If you are a resident of Ohio and you are interested in obtaining a concealed carry license, be sure to follow the process outlined above.

What disqualifies you from CCW in Ohio?

The following are some of the most common reasons why people are disqualified from carrying a concealed weapon in Ohio:

- Having been convicted of a felony

- Having been convicted of a violent misdemeanor

- Having been convicted of drug abuse

- Being subject to a protection order

- Being adjudicated mentally incompetent

- Failing to meet the training requirements

- Having been dishonorably discharged from the military

- Being an illegal alien

There are other reasons that may disqualify you from carrying a concealed weapon in Ohio, so it is important to consult with an experienced attorney if you might have an issue. An experienced attorney can help you understand the specific laws and regulations in Ohio and how they may apply to your situation.

Ohio CCW and alcohol

Ohio's concealed carry laws are very specific about what you can and cannot do while carrying a concealed weapon. One of the most common questions we get is whether or not you can drink alcohol while carrying a concealed weapon.

The answer is no, you cannot drink alcohol while carrying a concealed weapon in Ohio. Doing so would be considered "carrying while intoxicated" and is a violation of Ohio law.

If you are carrying a concealed weapon and plan on drinking, you need to make arrangements to secure your weapon before consuming any alcohol. This can be done by storing it in a locked car or in a safe at your destination.

Failure to do so could result in serious penalties, including jail time and the loss of your concealed carry permit. So if you're carrying a concealed weapon in Ohio, make sure to play it safe and keep your gun out of harm's way.

-Mentally incompetent or committed to a mental institution
